Friends of mine were coming up on their ten-year anniversary. What touched me was that, months before, Steve approached me and explained that for their ten-year anniversary, he wanted to give his wife the wedding they hadn’t originally had but that every girl deserves, especially his. Sally and Steve have an inspiring passion for and dedication to each other that I love to capture in my lens and witness in real life. I have had the opportunity to take their family photos several times, most recently when their fourth child, Ylva, was born.
When Sally and Steve approached me with an invitation to photograph their special Vow Renewal Ceremony in February, I admit that I was reluctant at first. I do not have any experience photographing weddings and truthfully, it isn’t something I’m hoping to tackle in the future. Wedding Photography just seems so intense and there is so much pressure to capture everything perfectly with very little room for error. However, Sally and Steve always put me at ease because they are so easy-going. It was an honor to, once again, be present with them and to try to capture their love and legacy during their special day.
Steve was thrilled to find an authentic WWII army dress uniform to wear to their vow renewal ceremony, and Sally was able to track down a vintage wedding dress from the 1940s to match. They both looked fantastic!
We belong to beautiful Trinity Lutheran Church, downtown Kalamazoo. I was glad that Sally and Steve were willing to brave the winter cold with me to capture some gorgeous photos outside together.
Sally and Steve decided to have the Celtic Symbol for “wolf pack” tattooed on their ring fingers to replace their traditional wedding bands.
Their four children had a really fun day, too!
The ceremony was simple, yet full of sincerity and tender moments, especially during Steve’s vows. His loving devotion to Sally and lasting respect and gratitude for her came through loud and clear, and I think everyone listening was very touched to listen to them both reaffirm their commitment to each other.
Delicious food, records from the ‘40s and a giant pie awaited everyone downstairs after the ceremony, and the afternoon was all-around lovely.
Cheers to the Morris Family! Here’s to the coming decades together!
